From Paris With Love… for the Dollar
12 October 2026 | US Dollar Index (DXY) | 4-Hour Chart
The US dollar is extending its recent gains as mounting fiscal uncertainty in France weighs on the euro, while geopolitical tensions and persistent US inflation concerns provide additional support for the greenback.
France’s proposed 2027 budget has unsettled investors, with doubts surrounding the government’s ability to reduce its deficit amid political divisions. Rising French borrowing costs have added to the pressure, leaving the euro vulnerable against its US counterpart.
Meanwhile, escalating tensions in the Middle East have driven oil prices higher, raising concerns that inflation could remain elevated and prompting investors to reconsider the Federal Reserve’s interest-rate outlook. With US inflation figures due on Wednesday, the dollar could face another important catalyst.
Technical Analysis: DXY (4H)

Turning to the chart, the US Dollar Index remains firmly bullish, having established a sequence of higher highs and higher lows throughout recent weeks.
More recently, price has entered a contracting consolidation pattern, characterised by rising support and slightly declining resistance. This resembles an ascending triangle, although the upper boundary slopes modestly downwards.
DXY is now testing a potential bullish breakout above the 102.40–102.45 resistance region, with price briefly reaching approximately 102.58.
A sustained move above this resistance could reinforce the bullish outlook, opening the door towards the psychological 103.00 level, where the upper boundary of the broader ascending channel may provide additional resistance.
Conversely, failure to sustain the breakout could see the index retreat towards 102.00, where the rising trendline offers an important technical reference.
For now, the broader trend continues to favour dollar strength, although confirmation above resistance remains important.
With French fiscal uncertainty weighing on the euro and US inflation data approaching, the question is whether the dollar can turn its latest breakout attempt into another sustained rally.
