WTI Crude — The Premium Leaves as Fast as It Arrived

There is a clean structure developing on the 4-hour WTI chart right now, and the price action is starting to say something the fundamentals have been quietly confirming for weeks. Working left to right, the story breaks down like this:

  • An early-year impulse lower set the base of the structure near the $70 region before buyers stepped in
  • Price then spent April and May grinding through a corrective triangle, respecting the converging trendlines and printing a series of lower highs into declining resistance
  • The triangle has now resolved to the downside, with WTI pressing back toward the lower channel boundary around the $79–$80 area

That „Impulse Down?“ label on the chart earns its question mark for a reason. Price is sitting on the floor of the structure rather than decisively breaking it, and there is a meaningful difference between the two. A close beneath the lower trendline opens the door toward the mid-to-low $60s, an area that also happens to be where price was rotating before the rally ever began.

The fundamentals are the supporting cast here, not the lead. Global oil prices have tumbled around 20% from their 2026 highs as ceasefire optimism between the US and Iran has drained the fear premium out of the price, and that repricing is essentially what the descending channel represents. The tension worth watching, though, is that shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has remained extremely limited since military action began in late February — so the supply disruption that originally fired this move has not fully cleared, even as the market is trading as if it largely has.

The lower boundary is the line that matters from here. A hold keeps the door open for a corrective bounce back toward the broken trendline; a break and close below it confirms the continuation and puts the deeper targets in play.
