Oil\u2019s back in chop mode this morning, with WTI and Brent swinging either side of that $100 handle as the market tries to price headlines that just aren\u2019t lining up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On one side, you\u2019ve got talk of US-Iran engagement still floating around \u2014 even chatter of high-level talks potentially happening. But on the other, Iran\u2019s flat-out rejected the US truce framework and is doubling down on its own conditions. Bottom line: no clean path to a ceasefire right now, and the market knows it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s keeping risk premium elevated, especially with the Strait of Hormuz situation still messy. Flows are disrupted, shipping\u2019s getting more complicated, and any sign this drags on keeps a floor under prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time though, the US data isn\u2019t exactly helping the bull case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Crude inventories rose again \u2014 another chunky build of 6.9m barrels, marking the fifth straight weekly increase. Stocks are now sitting at their highest since mid-2024. Cushing saw a big jump too, and exports dropped off pretty sharply. That\u2019s a soft signal on demand, at least near-term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Products were mixed \u2014 gasoline drew a bit, distillates built \u2014 but nothing there to really shift the bigger picture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So you\u2019ve basically got a market caught between geopolitics and fundamentals. And right now, neither side is giving a clean directional push.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Technically, oil still looks heavy.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

That structure we\u2019ve been watching is still intact \u2014 price is sitting inside a broader\u00a0bear flag<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0on the 4H.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You\u2019ve got the larger downward channel still guiding the move, and this recent grind higher looks corrective rather than impulsive. The smaller rising structure on the right just reinforces that \u2014 more of a squeeze than a breakout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For that bear flag to actually trigger, you\u2019d want to see a shift in narrative \u2014 and that likely comes from geopolitics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If ceasefire talks start stabilising, or even just the market believes<\/em> de-escalation is coming, that risk premium can come out pretty quickly. That\u2019s your catalyst for a downside break.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Until then, though, it\u2019s headline-driven chop inside structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
