{"id":32099,"date":"2026-08-10T05:34:57","date_gmt":"2026-08-10T05:34:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/alchemymarkets.com\/?post_type=market_insights&#038;p=32099"},"modified":"2026-08-10T05:36:22","modified_gmt":"2026-08-10T05:36:22","slug":"sp500-potential-top-aug-2026","status":"publish","type":"market_insights","link":"https:\/\/alchemymarkets.com\/de\/education\/market-insights\/chart-of-the-day\/sp500-potential-top-aug-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"S&amp;P 500 Is Testing the Top of a 4-Year Logarithmic Channel"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The S&amp;P 500 is now testing the top of a <strong>logarithmic rising channel stretching back to 2022<\/strong>, while <a href=\"https:\/\/alchemymarkets.com\/education\/indicators\/stochastic-rsi\/\">Stochastic RSI<\/a> has pushed into overbought territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Previous tests of this top has resulted in a <a href=\"https:\/\/alchemymarkets.com\/education\/strategies\/bearish-divergence\/\"><strong>bearish divergence<\/strong><\/a><strong> <\/strong>on the daily timeframe, where price continued to push higher with weakening momentum. This was eventually followed by a decline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1605\" height=\"939\" src=\"https:\/\/alchemymarkets.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-39.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-32100\" srcset=\"https:\/\/alchemymarkets.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-39.png 1605w, https:\/\/alchemymarkets.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-39-300x176.png 300w, https:\/\/alchemymarkets.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-39-1024x599.png 1024w, https:\/\/alchemymarkets.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-39-768x449.png 768w, https:\/\/alchemymarkets.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-39-1536x899.png 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1605px) 100vw, 1605px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So if price pushes higher and forms a bearish divergence now, this technical idea is going to gain more probability for me, personally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those pullbacks have repeatedly brought the S&amp;P back towards its <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/alchemymarkets.com\/education\/indicators\/bollinger-bands\/\">100-week EMA band<\/a><\/strong>, which has acted as a pretty reliable trend support since 2023. It currently sits near the channel lows<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What would get my attention?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I would want to see something like this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>S&amp;P continues pushing higher, potentially even overshooting the channel<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stochastic RSI fails to confirm the new high, creating daily TF bearish divergence<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Price then falls back inside the channel<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If that happens, the topping idea becomes much more interesting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>For now, we&#8217;re only at the awareness stage<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The setup is there, but the actual reversal signal isn&#8217;t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Bullish Scenario<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you&#8217;re an <a href=\"https:\/\/alchemymarkets.com\/education\/market-insights\/elliott-wave\/\">Elliott Wave trader<\/a>, the current move could still be part of <strong>Wave 3<\/strong>, which would leave room for the S&amp;P to break above this channel and extend considerably higher before a larger correction develops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A sustained breakout above the channel would therefore weaken my bearish idea pretty quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Keep in mind, we\u2019re not trying to pick the top here. This is simply a technical structure worth paying attention to as it has produced some pretty useful signals over the last few years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For now: channel resistance is being tested.
